They Call it a Draft for a Reason

I needed something to jump start my writing so I re-read Chapter 1. Never NEVER do that again! It is, in a word, horrible. At one point I had to ask myself what the heck I was thinking when I wrote it. Fortunately it can be salvaged. However, I am going to press on. It is July 31st. I want to be at the halfway mark of this draft. *not going to happen* I know it is rough and it should be. That is what the editing process is about right?

I had something else I was going to talk about today but I am off my game at the moment. Totally knocked off my axis. We will return to our regular broadcasting soon.

FYI today is J.K. Rowling's birthday. I would send some chocolate frogs but my owl has not returned.

Am going to sleep for real this time.

  1. Reading old work is a killer! I have a folder of stuff I wrote as a preteen and for some bizarre, masochistic reason I occasionally take a look. And I always end up telling myself "Never again". But hey, if you reread something you wrote and are no longer satisfied, then I guess it means you've improved?

I'm sure your chapter is better than you think it is, though. Best of luck with the rest of the draft and all the drafts to follow :)

  2. It is a killer, even more so when you wrote it a month ago. 0_o

It is better than I thought although it is rough and needs a good polishing but not a total loss. It was written in the moment when I just could not stop writing. The most important thing is pressing on and reaching the finish line. Then I can go back and clean it up.

  3. Hi Gayl,

This comment is unrelated to this post. I clicked on the song "Falling slowly" on the side. Did you watch the movie where that song originally came from? It was pretty good.

  4. You know I haven't watched that movie although I rarely get out to a movie...I will have to check it out. I have heard good things about it.
